Joining the Keystone staff in 1984, Karen Dill is often referred to as a perfect example of why 8th grade teachers at the middle school call themselves a team. Dill carries enthusiasm and a positive attitude that are contagious. Dill is being recognized as this month's Chronicle-Telegram Teacher of the Month. Realizing her calling to be a teacher at an early age, as a babysitter of young children, Dill put her goals in motion. She attended Lorain County Community College, Kent State University and Ashland University and graduated with a master's degree in education and a major in gifted and talented. Dill has often said that she couldn't picture herself as being anything but a teacher. This dedicated teacher has developed a great rapport with her students and the Keystone staff. Dill loves her work and everyone knows it. Pat Foreman, assistant principal of Keystone Middle School, said, "Karen creates a great learning environment in her classroom and commands respect and cooperation from her students." "I'm thrilled she's receiving this award because it has been a long time coming to her. She's an excellent teacher and person," said Natalie Stanic, one of Dill's students. Other students were quick to agree. "Mrs. Dill is an outstanding teacher. I've learned a lot from her class. She encourages us to accomplish our goals, and do our best all the time," said Jaclyn Jewett Corey Dill, student and son of Dill commented, "She keeps the class moving, there's never a dull moment. Along with her teaching ability she's the kindest teacher I know. I know I'll miss her when I go to high school.” "She can best be described as a dedicated and caring professional. She is a master teacher and is respected by the adult and the student population here at Keystone Middle School," said Foreman. "Karen has that natural delivery as a teacher," said Mary Gross, who is the school guidance counselor. "She has the ability to keep kids fascinated and that makes them want to learn." Deb Krolczyk, one of the middle school teachers, referred to Dill as a team player. "The eighth grade teachers plan a lot of extra activities for our students and Karen has become an integral member of our planning sessions. She is a delight to work with." Dill resides in LaGrange with her husband, Clay, and children, Kyle, Corey and Kara.
