Local students are honored for traits such as trustworthiness, honesty, leadership and caring. 9-12 students are recognized by having their stories published in the paper throughout the school year. Those featured in these stories are additionally recognized during a luncheon in their honor and awarded with proclamations by the Mayor of Elyria. For details click here. |

Design an Ad/ Write an Editorial
January through March
Area students learn about advertising and graphic arts by designing ads for area businesses. Student-written editorial are also featured in this program. All winning ads and editorials are featured in a special section of the paper. To participate in the contest, teachers must be receiving the Chronicledition. For details click here. |

Pigskin Geography
September 7 through December 16.
A 17-week program, Pigskin Geography uses the newspaper to teach math, language arts, geography, research and mapping skills by following the Cleveland Browns. Weekly worksheets on qualifying teams grow students' knowledge of physical land-marks (states, river), geographic concepts (time zones, latitude/longitude) and map legends (mileage, capitals). The Stock Market Game™ (SMG) gives students the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in an on-line portfolio. They think they're playing a game. You know they're learning economic and financial concepts they'll use for the rest of their lives. Student teams consist of 3-5 players and is $10 per team.
