GRAFTON — Village Council is looking for a candidate to fill a vacancy after the death of Council President John Lescher.
Lescher, 71, died March 6 from complications associated with his treatment for throat cancer. He had missed only two Council meetings since treatment had started, and village administrators were hopeful that he would beat the illness.
Now, they are left trying to find someone to replace him, according to a Facebook post Friday.
Village Council is seeking to appoint a 3rd Ward resident to fill the seat at an upcoming Council meeting as early as April 2.
Council is asking interested individuals living in the 3rd Ward to drop off or mail a resume to Grafton Village Hall, 960 Main St., by noon Tuesday.
Candidates also are asked to attend the scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the same location.
During the meeting, the candidates will be asked to make a brief statement or presentation to Council, not exceeding three minutes.
Candidates vying for the seat must:
- Be a resident of the village for a minimum of two years.
- Be a registered elector in the village.
- Show verifiable residency within the 3rd Ward.
