ELYRIA TWP. — Residents will soon see some changes in their trash and recycling services.
Trustees recently voted to enter a five-year contract with Rumpke Waste & Recycling Services to be the sole provider of solid waste and recyclable collection for the township.
Rumpke services will begin the first week of April, collecting waste from residences, township facilities and special township events, Trustee Rick Hutman said.
In an effort to standardize and stabilize the cost of residential trash and recycling collection services, township trustees voted in 2018 to join the Lorain County Solid Waste Trash Consortium. Those services were put out to bid by the Consortium in the last quarter of 2018, generating bids from three providers.
Residents will receive a mailer from Rumpke spelling out the cost and services. Rumpke will start by handing out 95-gallon trash carts and 65-gallon recycling carts, though customers may call Rumpke customer service at (800) 828-8171 to request either a 65-gallon or 35-gallon trash cart.
The former trash collector, Republic Services, will cancel residential service at the end of March and issue a refund for April collection. Republic will start picking up old carts March 25 and should have them all collected by March 30.
Residents should leave their old carts at the street after the March 25 trash collection until they are picked up. You will not have to call to cancel service or to schedule the cart pick-up.
Residents with questions are asked to contact Rumpke customer service or the township trustees if they have any questions after reading the upcoming mailer.
