ELYRIA — An Elyria man has been indicted on several counts of rape in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a girl younger than 13.
David Ashley, 32, of Brace Avenue, was indicted on nine counts of first-degree felony rape, two counts of felony sexual imposition and two counts of felony gross sexual imposition by a Lorain County grand jury, according to a secret indictment recently unsealed.
Lorain County Prosecutor Dennis Will said the alleged sexual assaults took place over a period nine years. He said for part of that time period, the alleged victim was younger than 13.
“He had sexual affairs with her that were not consensual,” Will said. “First off, she would have been in a protected class for part of this time, so even if it was consensual, it would have been a rape.”
Will said Ashley continued to have sex with the alleged victim for several years until she reported it to a family member. An investigation ensued, and Ashley was then charged.
Ashley was being held at Lorain County Jail on $100,000 cash or surety bond, according to Will.
