ELYRIA — The free Downtown Elyria Loop bus route will take riders around downtown starting at 7:15 a.m. Monday.
The route begins at the Lorain County Transportation and Community Center parking lot on Broad Street and will have stops at the city of Elyria parking lot, the Elyria Public Library Central Branch on Washington Avenue, Lorain County Health and Dentistry, the Elyria Post Office, the Lorain County Justice Center, the Lorain County Administration Building, Riverview Plaza and University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.
The loop is estimated to take 25 to 28 minutes. Two buses will be on the loop from 7:15 to 9 a.m. and 3:15 to 5 p.m., cutting time to an estimated 15 minutes.
County Administrator Jim Cordes said the loop hopefully will fix parking problems for jurors at the Justice Center, as well as keep pedestrians from struggling with winter weather conditions.
There are no shelters along the route, which is a daytime service and is expected to cost $78,000 per year as long as it runs year-round.
The program could be extended depending on rider participation. For more information, call Lorain County Transit at (440) 329-5525 or visit www.loraincounty.us/transit.
