ELYRIA — Gulf Road, between Hilliard Road and Whitman Boulevard, remains closed for roadway improvements and will have new local traffic restrictions through Dec. 21, the city announced this week.
With the construction of the retaining wall and gutter pan, equipment, concrete trucks and workers will be in and out of the area. For the safety of all, non-resident motorists are asked to avoid the area.
A retaining wall is being constructed along the northern berm of Gulf Road between the entrance to the Valley of the Eagles Golf Club and Tarry Lane, just south of Whitman Boulevard.
The northbound lane of Gulf Road in that section of road is closed. The southbound lane will be open to northbound local traffic only between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on construction days.
Until the project is complete, there will be no southbound traffic from Whitman Boulevard. After 6 p.m. on construction days and on weekends, there will be no pass-through as Gulf Road will be completely closed between Valley of the Eagles and Tarry Lane.
All Valley of the Eagles traffic, nearby residents and EMS, fire and police vehicles will have access from the south (the area of Gulf Road and Vista Court). On non-construction days and after 6 p.m., there will be no vehicle pass-through.
Residents of Tarry Lane will have access from the north (Gulf Road and Whitman Boulevard area). EMS, fire and police response to the area of Tarry Lane also need to gain access from the north.
