UPDATE: The lockdown was lifted around 10 a.m., and the threat has been determined to be not credible.
Elyria High School is under external lockdown following a series of phone calls threatening to shoot up the school.
An external lockdown means nobody is currently allowed into the building, says Superintendent Tom Jama. There is also an increased police presence around the building, he said.
Jama said a call came into the main switchboard shortly before 9 a.m., threatening to “shoot up the MFing school.” While he was being informed of the call, the phone rang again. This time, Jama picked it up to what appeared to be the same caller reiterating the threat and adding, “This is no joke.” The caller hung up and called again to repeat the threat.
A statement by Elyria police said the caller was male, and they believe he was in his early to mid 20s. Anyone with information is asked to call Elyria police at (440) 323-3302.
