ELYRIA – The Elyria Fire Department fought an intense fire in a vacant home on 161 North Gateway Boulevard Tuesday morning.
Firefighters arrived at the home at 1:15 a.m. to find ¾ of the home engulfed. They took a defensive stance outside the building and Lorain and Sheffield fire departments provided mutual aid to help rotate firefighters.
The scene was cleared at about 5:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported and the home was still standing. The home had an estimated total loss of $68,000. The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.
