Elyria Pioneers football tickets available online

ELYRIA — With the opening of the new Ely Stadium, Elyria Schools is rolling out a presale ticket option that allows for online and mobile ticket purchases.

GoFan is the place where people can get football, soccer and volleyball tickets prior to each event. There also is a mobile app that allows ticket purchasesr to show proof of purchase to gatekeepers.

District spokeswoman Amy Higgins said this is an effort to avoid long lines at the ticket gate.

Friday’s first home game against Avon Lake, which will be a soft opening of the new $14 million sports complex, is expected to be a sellout.

The stadium, the new home of the Elyria Pioneers, seats about 3,000 home fans and about 1,000 visiting fans. Friday marks the first day Elyria residents will be able to see all the work that has happened since the Nov. 9 groundbreaking.

“We have been calling it a soft opening, meaning it is primarily for the events that are scheduled,” Higgins said. “There will be no fanfare for the stadium. We will have different dedications as the facilities open as we did for the new high school, and right now those are set for October.”

In addition to Friday’s football game, the first boys soccer game at the stadium is Saturday.

There will be several restricted areas Friday and Saturday.

“We are still putting the finishing touches on it now and will be up to game day,” Higgins said. “People will see that when they get there, but I think people will be very excited about it nonetheless.”

There are a few logistical points fans should remember for Friday.

About 350 parking spots will be ready on game day. It is recommended that people use a shuttle service that will leave Elyria High School’s West Avenue parking lot starting at 5:30 p.m.

The game starts at 7 p.m., and concessions will be open before and during the game.

Fans coming to the stadium must use the State Street entrance to enter and exit the facility.

While district officials hope fans will use GoFan (the online site does come with a $1.05 per ticket convenience fee), tickets are also available at Elyria High School in the athletics office 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Friday. Purchase online tickets at

Seniors get in for free. Student tickets are $4, and adult tickets are $6.
