Multitude of road projects planned throughout county

Lorain County can expect a number of changes and new road construction in the near future, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

U.S. Route 6

U.S. Route 6 between Washington Avenue and Arizona Avenue will be reduced to one lane for bridge repairs on the Charles Berry Bridge. The westbound lanes of traffic and the north sidewalk are closed. One lane of traffic in each direction is being maintained in the eastbound lanes. A sidewalk detour is posted for pedestrians. The project is expected to be completed in December 2019.

U.S. Route 20

U.S. Route 20, between Stoney Ridge Road and Lear Nagle Road, will have one lane of traffic in each direction. Traffic will be shifted to the south side of Route 20 from Jaycox to Main Avenue today. There will be one lane in each direction with a turn lane down the center. Widening will begin on the north side of Route 20. The intersection of Route 20 and Olive Street also will close today for intersection improvements. Traffic on Lear Nagle Road has been switched to the eastside. The dedicated left turns on Lear Nagle Road to Route 20 have been removed and the signal timing has been changed.

State Route 58

State Route 58, from the Ashland County line and through the village of Wellington, will be reduced to one lane for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in August.

State Route 83

State Route 83 between state Route 82 and Capel Road is closed for a bridge replacement. The detour route for southbound drivers is Route 83 to 82, west on 82 to state Route 57, south on Route 57 to Route 83, and reverse for northbound drivers. The project is expected to be complete in August.

Interstate 90

  • I-90, at the bridges over state Route 57 and West River Road, will have nightly lane closures as crews continue work on the bridge replacement. Eastbound I-90 traffic will be shifted to the westbound side to complete the construction of the I-90 eastbound structures over Route 57 and West River Road. West River Road under I-90 is closed as crews continue to work on the structure. The detour route for northbound drivers is West River Road to Griswold Road, west on Griswold Road to Route 57, north on Route 57 to North Ridge Road, east on North Ridge to West River Road, and reverse for southbound drivers. All exit and entrance ramps to and from Route 57 will stay open. The project is expected to be complete in May, but all work is weather-dependent.
  • I-90, at Route 83 exit ramps, will have irregular lane closures and shoulder work as crews work to widen the ramp. Route 83, northbound and southbound, will have daily lane closures 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as crews begin work in the middle lane. Route 83 exit ramps and I-90 traffic will be maintained at all times. The project is expected to be complete in October.
  • I-90, west of state Route 611 to the Cuyahoga County line, will have nightly lane closures for resurfacing work and minor structure repairs. There will be nightly lane closures on the entrance and exit ramps at Route 611, Route 83, and Nagel Road for resurfacing work to the ramps. Drivers are warned to driver carefully while traveling through the area and to be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the zone. The project is expected to be complete September.
  • I-90 eastbound, between state Route 611 and Route 83, will have single lane closures from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, to remove and replace the noise wall. The exit ramp on I-90 eastbound to Route 83 will stay open. The project is expected to be complete in October.

State Route 113

State Route 113, at the Bell Avenue and Adams Street intersection in Elyria, is closed for a bridge painting project. The detour for eastbound Bell Avenue drivers is Lake Avenue North to Warden Avenue East on Warden to Lorain Boulevard, south on Lorain to Bell Avenue and reverse for westbound drivers. The detour for northbound Adams Street drivers is Bond Avenue West to Lake Avenue, north on Lake Avenue to Warden Avenue, east on Warden Avenue to Adams Street and reverse for southbound driver. The road is expected to reopen in September.

Interstate 480

I-480, just east of the Ohio Turnpike over Lorain Road, will have single lane closures during off-peak hours for bridge repairs and painting. Lorain Road, underneath the I-480 structure, will have single lane closures 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as crews work on the bridge. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Lorain Road. The westbound lane on state Route 2 will be closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for structure work on the Middle Ridge/South Broadway overpass. The project is expected to be complete in October.

State Route 511

State Route 511, South of Bursley Road, is closed for a structure replacement. The detour route for northbound drivers is Route 511 to state Route 162, east on Route 162 to Route 58, north on Route 58 to state Route 18, west on Route 18 to Route 511, and reverse for southbound drivers. The road is expected to reopen Sept. 7.
