ELYRIA — A former employee of the Lorain County Emergency Management Agency is under investigation after allegations were made about the handling of funds.
Alice Webber, who served as emergency operations manager for the agency, resigned from her position several weeks ago, according to County Administrator Jim Cordes. Shortly after Webber resigned, allegations were made, Cordes said.
“There’s been allegations of some issues with some funds that were under their jurisdiction, and it’s being investigated,” Cordes said. “We’re doing our investigation right now to see if there’s any fire where the smoke has been coming from.”
The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation, Cordes said. He said he can’t say whether criminal charges could result from the investigation until it’s complete.
“Right now, I just have rumors, innuendo and suspicions,” he said.
Cordes also said he doesn’t know how long the investigation will take.
“I don’t have any real urgency in this because she resigned her position,” he said. “If the allegations are true, they’ll be pursued differently. While the investigation is going on, I really can’t comment.”
