Elyria police and fire departments responded to a call for a vehicle roll-over at 3:55 p.m. Thursday on State Route 57 Southbound near the Lowes. When they arrived, Elyria Fire Department Assistant Chief Carl Mack said responders actually found two accidents.
According to Mack, there was a single-vehicle accident involving a passenger van, with one female driver and two dogs in the car. He said the van had been coming off the turnpike and had hit the median and rolled over. The driver reportedly had injuries to her arms and head. She was taken to University Hospital Elyria Medical Center and then flown to Cleveland Metro.
“She was conscious when we got there,” Mack said. “She was trying to get out of the vehicle … it appeared she had a severe arm injury.”
The second, minor accident happened while cars were trying to avoid the rolled-over van, he said. There were no injuries reported.
The dogs that were in the passenger van did not appear to be injured, Mack said, and were picked up by Animal Control.
