A total of 12 people were displaced in a Thursday night fire at an Elyria apartment building.
Firefighters were called to South Park Apartments on Middle Avenue around 11 p.m. Thursday. Elyria Fire Assistant Chief Joe Pronesti said there was heavy smoke and fire when they arrived, and it took two hours or so to get the blaze under control.
No injuries were reported. Three apartment units were rendered uninhabitable, and damage is estimated around $40,000 for the building and contents. But Pronesti pointed out it could have been worse.
“My guys did an outstanding job saving the other apartments,” he said. “They made a very aggressive stop.”
The cause remains under investigation.
