WELLINGTON TWP. – A toddler was killed in the driveway of her home today after she was struck by a car driven by a family member who had not seen the 22-month-old.
Lorain County Sheriff’s deputies learned a family member had gone outside to move a vehicle shortly before 11 a.m. Unknown to the adult, Elinna Holmes had also gone outside and was walking in the driveway of the home in the 40000 block of Peck Wadsworth Road, according to a news release.
“The family member, who was very distraught, advised that Elinna was not visible from the vehicle and the family member did not realize initially that the child had been struck,” the release said.
The family member called 911 immediately after realizing what happened.
Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, but the release said she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The incident is under investigation by the deputies and the county Coroner Stephen Evans’ office.
