ELYRIA — Visit Lorain County announced the winner of its recent Burger Battle.
The Avon Brewing Company took home the title of Overall Best Burger in Lorain County, Visit Lorain County’s interim director Jennifer Kennedy told Lorain County commissioners during a presentation Wednesday morning.
The winner received 286 of 922 votes cast for the best burger during the Burger Battle, which took place Oct. 20 to 29.
A dozen restaurants across the county competed for the title, which was a follow-up to the county’s Restaurant Week promotion in the spring. The restaurants all offered a $9 off-menu specialty burger for the competition, with the burger receiving the most votes winning the title.
More than 1,730 total specialty burgers were sold during the contest, Kennedy said. Diners were able to vote online or submit a paper ballot at the locations.
The Feve in Oberlin finished second, with 230 votes. The Brew Kettle in Amherst received the award for Most Creative Burger in Lorain County for its Hangover Burger, which was made with French toast.
Kennedy said the restaurants that put the most effort into promoting the contest to its customers also received the most votes for its burgers. She said a few of the restaurants didn’t put much effort into promoting the contest, which she felt was unfortunate.
