NORTH RIDGEVILLE — The state Environmental Protection Agency was called to Root and Lorain roads Wednesday after police say a tractor-trailer overturned, spilling 50 gallons of diesel.

The driver, Jeffrey Swauger, 49, of Canton, was issued one ticket for through trucks and another for careless operation, police said. He was not injured.

Fire Assistant Chief Jon Graf said the tractor-trailer hauling coiled steel was trying to turn around in the parking lot of a church but the drive was too steep, causing the trailer to roll on its side.

Graf said the driver was trying to get back to the highway.

A chemical cleanup company was called to take care of the diesel spill and the EPA also was called to the scene.
