ELYRIA – Charges of operating a vehicle under the influence were dropped against the Elyria woman involved in the two-car fatal crash Monday.

According to court records, the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office asked Wednesday for the OVI charge against Kristi Fitch, 40, to be dismissed in Elyria Municipal Court so further investigation could be completed.

Vicki Hill, 58, of Elyria, was killed after her 2007 Jeep Liberty and a 2003 Buick Century, driven by Fitch, collided at West Avenue and Third Street.

Police have said Hill was stopped at the traffic signal at the intersection when Fitch’s car struck the rear of the Jeep. When officers arrived, the Jeep was in flames. Officers attempted to get into the vehicle but were pushed back because of the intensity of the fire, police said.

Officers were able to remove Fitch from her car before it caught fire.

Firefighters attempted to extinguish the Jeep and get Hill out but were unsuccessful and Hill died at the scene.
