CLEVELAND – A North Ridgeville man died Saturday in a fatal motorcycle accident.

Matthew Lapohn, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Interstate 71 and state Route 176 in Cleveland.

Cleveland police are expected to release more information about the crash today.

A memorial motorcycle ride for Lapohn has been planned for 1 p.m. Sunday at the East 9th Street Pier in Cleveland. Bikers will leave at 2 p.m. and ride to Squire’s Castle in Willoughby where a cookout will follow.

Lapohn was a member of a Facebook group NEO Bike Life where fellow motorcyclists have been posting memories.

He is survived by his parents, Randy and Bonnie Lapohn, two children, Cole and Matthew Jr., sisters Nicole, Kristin and Jessica, and 12 nieces and nephews and a great grandfather that he loved deeply, Randy Lapohn said.

“He will be greatly missed,” Randy Lapohn said. “He was my buddy. We all called him ‘dude’ because he was the only boy.”
