BRIGHTON TWP. — An 18-year-old woman died after sustaining injuries in a crash Saturday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol, Kiara Stowers of Columbus was a passenger in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling northbound on state Route 511 and failed to yield at a stop sign at state Route 18.

The release said the Malibu, being driven by Elijah Ross, 19, of Pickerington, was struck on the passenger side by a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Stowers was cut from the vehicle before being taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where she died.

Ross suffered no injuries as a result of the crash, and the driver of the Dodge Ram, James Young, 34, of Norwalk, was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin before being released.

Everyone in the vehicles was wearing seat belts, and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
