ELYRIA – Police are trying to catch a man who they say tried to run over three bicyclists last night.

Capt. Chris Costantino said police were able to get surveillance video from a neighbor that shows a dark blue Dodge Caravan first driving close enough next to a man on a bicycle to scrape the bicyclist’s hand before going up onto the curb and running over the foot of a another bicyclist.

“This van is seen going up onto the tree lawn purposely trying to hit a 20-year-old and then taking off toward East Avenue,” Costantino said.

Police got the call at about 7:30 p.m. Monday about some juveniles being hit by a car in the 200 block of Ninth Street.

The video shows a heavy-set white man wearing a green shirt with white stripes “try to run them over,” Costantino said.

The bicyclists were males ages 20, 18, and 14, Costantino said. He said the 14-year-old was not injured but the other men were treated at the scene.

Police are looking for anyone with information about the incident to call the police at (440) 323-3302.
