T.G.I. Friday’s at Midway Mall closes

ELYRIA — If you’re a fan of T.G.I. Friday’s Buffalo wings or three-course menu deals, you’ll have to drive a little farther to satisfy your cravings.
The restaurant at Midway Mall has gone out of business, according to a note on its door.
“Although it was a very difficult decision, we have made the business decision to close this location,” the note stated.
It thanked employees and customers for years of support and asked them to continue visiting the T.G.I. Friday’s in Westlake, Strongsville, Brooklyn or any of the other nine Northeast Ohio locations.
Calls Sunday to Derek Farley, a spokesman for the restaurant chain, were not returned. T.G.I. Friday’s has some 660 stores nationwide.
The restaurant is near an Applebee’s and an Eat’n Park, both of which remain open. Bennigan’s and Fazoli’s, which also were in the area, closed over the summer.
A Lone Star Steakhouse went out of business in June 2007 near the mall, but other restaurants have sprung up, including an Olive Garden at 1635 West River Road.
In recent months, Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse moved into the location in the mall vacated by Tokyo Steakhouse.
A Chipotle restaurant is also expected to open next year on West River Road near the Verizon store.

That area has been over-saturated with restaurants ever since the late ’90s. It’s sad that so many of them opened there in the first place; instead, now people get to lose their jobs.
And in preparation for the scores of commenters who will undoubtedly place the blame for this squarely on the mayor, I sure hope NONE of you ever once hopped on I-90 to go eat dinner at Crocker Park. (Because, you know, Westlake has such lower business taxes than Elyria!! Oh wait, they don’t? Well crap!)

This was a huge suprise to the employees. There were rumors but, no one thought they were serious. May our thoughts be with those out of employment this holiday season.
