College basketball: Auburn tops Ohio State women in overtime

Sherell Hobbs scored six of her 23 points in overtime to lift No. 20 Auburn to an 87-80 win over visiting No. 17 Ohio State on Sunday.
Hobbs had a steal and layup with 54 seconds left in the extra period to seal the win for the Tigers (4-0). She also finished with eight rebounds and four steals and hit back-to-back baskets to spark a 6-0 run in OT that Ohio State (3-1) never overcame.
Jantel Lavender led Ohio State (3-1) with 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.
The Buckeyes went just 2-for-7 shooting in overtime while Auburn was 6-for-9.

Jessica Breland scored a career-high 31 points — including two key baskets in the final two minutes — and North Carolina held off host Oklahoma to win the Women’s Preseason NIT.
No. 8 Stanford 81, No. 3 Rutgers 47
Jayne Appel had 19 points and 14 rebounds to help host Stanford.

Vicki Baugh, in only her second game back after knee surgery, scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help host Tennessee.

Rachel Allison scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

Kristi Toliver scored 26 points and passed another career milestone to lead host Maryland. Toliver passed 1,500 points for her career, the 10th player in Maryland history to do so.

Jessica Minnfield scored 14 points for host Michigan, which handed Vanderbilt its first loss of the season.

Kathleen Nash and Brittainey Raven each scored 22 points to lead host Texas.

Becca Bruszewski scored 18 points to lead six players in double figures and visiting Notre Dame shot 65 percent from the field.

Oberlin (0-2) shot 37 percent (18 of 57) from the floor and was 4-of-7 from the stripe. Senior Kira Rivera led the Yeowomen with nine points on 4-of-9 shooting.

Terrell Holloway made 10 free throws without a miss and finished with 13 points to help Xavier beat No. 13 Memphis 63-58 on Sunday night in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off championship game in San Juan.
B.J.Raymond and Jamel McLean added 11 points each for the Musketeers (5-0).

Hasheem Thabeet had 19 points and 14 rebounds, and A.J. Price added 13 points and 11 rebounds in UConn’s win at the Paradise Jam in Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands

Freshman Samardo Samuels was dominant for the second straight night, scoring 24 points Sunday to lead third-ranked Louisville to an 81-54 victory over South Alabama in the final of the Billy Minardi Classic in Louisville, K.Y.
The Cardinals used a suffocating defense to force 24 turnovers.

Nolan Smith scored 12 of his 14 points during the decisive first-half run that propelled led host Duke to its third win in four days.

James Harden scored a career-high 33 points and had 12 rebounds to lead host Arizona State.
It was the fourth career double-double for Harden, a sophomore who has led the Sun Devils (3-0) in scoring or shared the lead in 28 of his 37 games.
Missouri 83, No. 19 Southern California 72
DeMarre Carroll had 29 points and 11 rebounds to help Missouri upset Southern California in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip Off in San Juan.

Trevon Hughes had 22 points to help Wisconsin in the Paradise Jam.
Wisconsin (4-0) shot 48.8 percent, while holding the Toreros (2-2) to 34.5 percent, and had a 22-16 advantage in points in the paint.
Kent State 83, N.C.-Wilmington 64
Kent State (3-0) led by only four at the half, 40-36, then pulled away in the second, at one point enjoying a 21-point advantage, during the South Padre Island Invitational.
Three Kent State players scored in double digits, led by Chris Singletary’s 23 points. Julian Sullinger had 18 and Al Fisher offered 17.
