Fund set up for kids of crash victim

Jason Hawk | The Chronicle-Telegram

AVON — Robert Bueck took extraordinary measures to make sure he was driving safely.

“He did everything right. But he still died,” said his friend, Brian Lamb. “It’s not right.”

Bueck, 41, of Avon Lake, was killed Friday afternoon when a Hyundai Sonata struck his Buddy 125 scooter on Stoney Ridge Road, according to Avon police.

Lamb said Bueck bought the scooter to be environmentally friendly. He wore a helmet and bought an armored leather jacket to keep himself safe — he even paid to have extra safety lights mounted on the scooter.

Despite all his care, Bueck died of massive chest injuries at Avon Emergency Care Center.

Lamb said he has known Bueck’s family for years. Now he’s asking the local community to step in and show support for Bueck’s children, 14-year-old McKenzie and 11-year-old Ethan.

Donations may be sent by mail to the Children of Robert Bueck Memorial Fund, c/o KeyBank, 32000 Walker Road, Avon Lake, OH 44012. They may also be made in person at any KeyBank branch.

The fund is not to cover funeral expenses but for McKenzie’s and Ethan’s long-term education.

“I’ve been spending a lot of time with Robert’s kids over the past 24 hours, and everything is driven right now by what is in their best interest,” Lamb said.

He said three school districts are mourning the family’s loss.

Bueck, a “technophile who would drop anything to fix your computer,” was a network administrator at the Avon Schools, Lamb said. The children attend Avon Lake Schools, and Bueck’s wife, Jennifer, works for the Rocky River Schools.

The crash that caused Bueck’s death is under investigation.

A statement Friday night from Avon police Sgt. Brian Tackett said the Hyundai involved in the crash was driven by 47-year-old Kimberly M. Fantozzi of North Ridgeville. She was not injured in the crash, the report said.

No more information was available from police Saturday.
