Supers return to LCS
The Midwest Supermodified Association returns next Saturday for a special non-points show. The E-Mods, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks and Chargers will compete. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., hot laps at 2:30, qualifying at 4:15 and racing at 6 p.m. Admission is $15, $5 ages 6-12, 5 and younger free and $25 for a pit pass.
LCS Hall inducts 13
LCS inducted its 2008 class of veterans last Saturday night.
Going in from the Supermodified division were drivers Randy Wynne, Dave Shullick Sr. and the late Tony Lavati Sr., who also ran LCS for several seasons in the 1980s.
Ralph Meilander, who was inducted as a former officer of NOSCRA (Northern Ohio Stock Car Racing Association), used the opportunity to take his vintage sprint car around the 3/8th-mile oval prior to the ceremonies.
Also going in were John and Lou Nagy, two top stock car drivers from the early 1950s, during which time Lou won the points championship over John.
Current track promoter Rusty Adams, a super late model driver from 1971-89, was also honored as was Don Arnold Sr., a competitor on the ARCA Circuit in the 1960s.
Also inducted were late model driver Bud Middaugh (1970-80) and Bucky Buchanan, a strong contender in the old Sport Stock division in the early 1970s. Rounding out this year’s class were Duane DePuy, Del DePuy and Milton DePuy — all drivers when LCS was still a dirt track.
Condolences to the family of another LCS Hall of Famer, Guy DeNillo, who passed away Saturday. Guy was inducted in 2005 and was a founder and former president of NOSCRA, serving for six years.
Page calls it quits
There will be a familiar number and name missing this weekend at LCS — Elyria’s Rick Page and the No. 80 E-Mod.
Page suffered a fractured vertebra in an accident at LCS on Sept. 6. The throttle stuck on his car while leading the E-Mod feature.
The racing career of Page that has spanned over 30 years has apparently come to an end due to the injury.
Page was the E-Mod champion at LCS in 1997, ’98 and ’00 and was a strong contender for the title this year. He will be missed.
Banquet set
The LCS Awards Banquet will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at Gargus Hall. Details to follow.
