Local golfers shut out in state tournament bids

FINDLAY — No area teams or individuals were able to advance from Thursday’s boys Division I district tournament to next week’s state tournament. The district tournament was played at Red Hawk Run Golf Course.
Amherst’s team finished fifth as Adam Kalivoda led the Comets with 79. Matt Schneider shot 81, while David Flynn shot 83 and Paul Srnis shot 89, giving the Comets a 332 total.
Avon Lake’s team finished ninth with a total of 345 strokes. Reilly Bates paced the Shoremen with 78. C.J. Blankenship shot 85, while Pat Haas shot 90 and Collin Holmes shot 92.
Louis Elbert of Midview had the best area individual score with a 78. David Goldense of Westlake shot 83, and Kyle Lottman of Elyria shot 88.
Ashland was the team champion (316), and Findlay was second (322). David Torchia of Toledo St. Francis was medalist with a 75, and Josh Bialecki of Anthony Wayne was the second-best individual with a 76. Torchia and Bialecki qualified to the state tournament as individuals.
The top two teams and the top two individuals not on qualifying teams advanced to the state tournament.

Girls

TOLEDO — No area teams or individuals were able to advance from the girls Division I district tournament to next week’s state tournament. The district tournament was played at Heatherdowns Golf Club.
Avon Lake’s team finished eighth with a total of 404 strokes. Alison Flint led the Shoregals with a 100, while Gianna Pro and Janell Brandley shot 101s. Taylor Coy closed out Avon Lake’s scoring with a 102.
Aimee Polgar of Westlake shot 90 for the area’s best individual score. Teammate Kayla Waitrovich shot 101.
Carly Babinec of North Olmsted shot 101, and Kelly Limpert shot 102. Nicole Cantrell of Olmsted Falls shot 101.
Ashland was the team champion (336), and Magnificat was second (365). Caroline Powers of Bowling Green was medalist with a 71, and Maddie Keffe of St. Joseph Academy was the second-best individual with an 80. Powers and Keffe qualified to the state tournament as individuals.
The top two teams and the top two individuals not on qualifying teams advanced to the state tournament.
