Area tracks: Supermods, Hall of Fame highlight card at county oval

 Rain may have spoiled last week’s Hall of Fame induction cermony at Lorain County Speedway, but not to worry. It’s back on the schedule for tonight as part of a blockbuster evening featuring the popular alcohol-burning supermodifieds and season championships in four divisions.
The PPG Vibrance Collection Midwest Supermodified Association will also crown its season champion.
Fresh off a win in last week’s MSA/Oswego Wing Challenge at Sandusky, Tim Jedrzejek (514) leads the supermod points coming into tonight’s racing. He’s followed in points by Dave Shullick 496, Charlie Schultz 487, Randy Burch 430, Moe Lilje 426, Bob Dawson 425, Jack Smith 423, Denny Fisher 396, Matt Palmer 314 and the team of  Tim Ice/Pat Shullick 291.
Season championships will be decided for the E-Mods, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks and Chargers.
The Lorain County Speedway Hall of Fame will induct its 2008 class.
The E-Mod top 10 point standings see Matt Marlowe (1,283) leading the pack, followed by Joe Shannon 1,100,  Rick Page 1,007, Tigh Shaffer 1,003, Andy Hoskinson 863,  Mike Lawson 862, Brad Copen 792, Kurt Hennings 727, Stephen Klinect 717 and Amber Gerken 714.
The Limited Late Model top 10 point standings see  Chuck Philips 1,371 in the lead, followed by Brian McCall 1,08, Tyler Johnson 1,025, Ryan Gullatta 862, Rick Yatson Jr. 777, Ray Smith 686, Brian Taylor 606, Joe Courson 593, Mike Plas 330 and Rolland Sheppard 287.
The Street Stock top 10 point standings are made up of  Bill Sprague 1,439, Steve Harmon 1,209, Matt Wilson 1,100, Josh Way 1,095, Chad Lemmerman 875, Randy Page 859, Joe March 784, Mike Kurz 782, Bill Penn 681 and Keith Platz Jr. 574
Charlie Wells tops the Chargers with 1,397 points, followed by  John Buderer 1,192, Shawn Bubsey 1,185, Michael Parks 1,157, John Kownzelman 1,002, Tom Moran 834, Mike Mathes 833, Kevin McCall 756, Troy Moore 657 and Andy McCall 616. 
Gates open at 3 p.m. today, with qualifying at 5 and racing at 7. Admission is $15, $5 ages 6-12 and free to 5 and younger. Call (440) 986-7223.
Coming up next weekend at LCS will be the 8th Annual Halloween Festival of Speed.
The three-day speed fest gets started on Friday with a practice session from 4-9 p.m. Grandstand admission is free and a pit pass is $10. More info next week.
Sandusky stuff
The Sportsman, Pure Stock and Spectator Stock divisions will be in action to night at Sandusky Speedway. Special-priced admission tonight will be $8, $5 ages 6-12, free to 5 and younger and those with military ID. Call (419) 625-4084.
NASCAR drivers Kevin Harvick, Ron Hornaday and Ricky Carmichael came to town Monday and Tuesday to practice at the Sandusky track.
They brought along one Sprint Cup car and two NASCAR trucks to prepare for Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, which is similar to Sandusky’s half-mile oval. NASCAR will race at Martinsville on Oct. 19.
Sandusky Speedway will be idle next Saturday, but racing returns on Oct. 18 with the Halloween Race.
* With the departure of regular Sandusky Speedway announcer Eric Suman, Spectator Stock driver Dave Wallencheck of Elyria was calling the stock car action and former LCS announcer and dirt/asphalt 305 Sprint Car driver Tim Wyckoff of Lorain called the Supermodified portion of the show last week.
* Jedrzejek was the winner of last week’s MSA/Oswego Wing Challenge Series feature while Greg Sharp won the Sportsman feature. Dylan Napier was the Pure Stock feature winner and Jeremy Champion won the Spectator Stock feature.
* The following drivers were crowned 2008 track champions : Mike Sims (Sportsman), Mike Sheppard (Pure Stock); Justin Cranmore (Spectator Stock).
Big bucks on line
The 11th Annual “No Box Bonanza” started Friday and wraps up Sunday. at Summit Motorsports Park.
The total guaranteed payout will be more than $30,900.
Festivities include kids’ games today and Sunday and a free Moser racers’ picnic today.
Adult admission is $35 for the weekend and $10 for kids 6-12.
Gates open at 8 a.m. daily with time trials at 9 a.m. Eliminations begin at 3 p.m. today and at noon Sunday Call (419) 668-5555.
* Coming up next weekend will be the AMA Dragbike Fall Nationals.
Over 500 competitors are expected. Admission is $20 daily or $35 for the weekend.
Admission for ages 2-12 is $5 daily. Gates open at 8 a.m. Call (513) 943-9700.
Let’s go cruisin’
Amherst Classic Cars, 7455 South Dewey Road, Amherst (985-2370) will host its 3rd Annual Car Show & Open House today from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring your custom and classic cars to win trophies. Festivities include a DJ, food vendors and a shop tour.
* Vietnam Vets Chapter 15 will host a car show Sunday (Oct.12 rain date) at John Lance Ford, 23775 Center Ridge Road,  Westlake. There will be dash plaques, trophies, music and refreshments. Spectator admission is free and participant admission is $10. All proceeds will go to the Vietnam Veterans of America.
