Track work to start at Keystone
Work will start next week on an all-weather polyurethane track and stadium lighting near Keystone High School on Opportunity Way in LaGrange.
The school board accepted bids in a special meeting last Friday. Vasco Sports Contractors bid $947,429 for the project to construct the track and seed and grade the interior field for a temporary grass infield, according to Phillip Butto, the district’s treasurer.
Also included in the project is a small section of bleachers, four-foot fence surrounding track, a six-foot security fence around the athletic area’s perimeter and a pavilion/storage facility.
Meanwhile, South Shore Electric bid $171,400 to install the stadium lighting, Butto said.
The track is the first phase of what the district says will become a new outdoor athletic facility for football, track, soccer and marching band to take the place of the current stadium near the elementary and middle schools.Funding for the first phase will come from beverage contracts, bond interest money from the new high school project, capital project funds and grant funds to incorporate recycled rubber. The Athletic Booster Club, Quarterback Club, other donations and a lease purchase agreement also will help fund the project.

Solicitation alert
The Keystone Schools have received reports from area businesses stating they have been contacted by a person seeking donations for a high school winter sports calendar. The solicitor uses the name of an athletic director who retired two years ago. Neither Keystone High School nor any of its sanctioned support groups have approved this solicitation, according to the school’s Web site.
