10,000 in county still without power
Cindy Leise | The Chronicle-Telegram
More than 10,000 people in Lorain County remained without power today after the remnants of Hurricane Ike tore through the state on Sunday.
Statewide, about 600,000 of the 1 million customers who lost power have their electricity back on, said Chris Eck, a spokesman for Ohio Edison.
“The extent of the damage is such that there are people who won’t have power for a few days,” he said.
The damage is the worst in recent memory, Eck said.
“Hurricane Ike had 70 mph winds in west Texas and when it got here it still had 70 mph winds — it was just unprecedented amounts of wind damage,” Eck said.
About 5,000 of the 16,000 customers of the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative in five counties were without power, said spokesman Terry Mazzone. Power remained out at about 12 customers in Lorain County later Monday, he said.
Mazzone said Ohio Edison transmission problems into the Baird Road substation in Camden Township caused one large outage.
Circuit problems at substations in Brighton Township and LaGrange Township caused other large outages, he said.

I dont’ know about anyone else but I can walk down my road and find more then 12 customers without power. There are people all over Elyria alone who I know don’t have power. My family along with my cousins family are 2 I know don’t have power. There are at least 6 Generators (sp) going on our street alone. That isn’t including the people who are living with flash lights on our road. This I have to say SUCKS… Gas goes up and now you have to worry about when your going to have power how you are going to live without it with your children and lets not forget how much food we are losing. I think that the worst yet is the gas we have to spend on powering the generators that we had to rent or buy… Sucks that say 1-3 days for power. I feel bad for those who went and bouthgt one and only use it for a day… Hope everyone without power is ok and my prayers are with the oneswho got hurt… If you ahve power why don’t you see if there is anything you can do for a family who doesn’t….

Geez- quit your whining. You managed to find a computer at 2 in the morning. Find someone you know that has power and take your food there. If you have a gas stove, start cooking. Think about the people who live in areas hit hard by hurricanes that don’t have power, water or homes for a month. Many have lost everything. Survival of the fittest.

I don’t think anyone is ‘whining’ … just the news makes it sound less than what it is … 2 whole blocks in the Heights area have been without power since 7:30 on Sunday night … many more than just 12 that this story reports …

Read the article, people. The 12 people without power were on the Lorain/Medina Rural Electric Cooperative. Not customers of Ohio Edison.

I think 12 was a type-o. O credit Ohio Edison in dealing with this mess. Good job, guys.

Umm.. My mom lives on Harvard 200 block, and they have been without power since Sunday Night.. So to those who said there isn’t anyone in Elyria on OHIO EDISON is wrong. My sister in law lives by the Old State Highway Patrol off of 57 and she is also w/o power since Sunday night.

Oh noooo… the person at the top was DEFINATELY WHINING!! Too used to all the modern conviences. You just had the biggest windstorm in recent memory, you’ve got thousands of trees that haven’t been maintained trimmed or removed. S##@ Happens. If you whine that much, its obvious why someone hasn’t asked you to stay with them. Hats off to the Electric, cable, Telepnone, and City , county workers. We know your doing the best you can!

megnspan, i’m over on the 100 block of cornell and in the same position … can’t figure it out though b/c don’t see any trees down or wires … and it’s only the 100/200 block cornell/harvard on one side of the street. isn’t the first time it’s happenend though, so don’t know what is up with the supply to these few blocks. I guess we’ve been put on the low end of the totem pole since there aren’t any limbs/trees or wires physically down …

Ok so you think I am whining well I am not I was just stating the facts…. And for you information I have a lap top last I knew you didn’t have to have power to run a lap top if it is charged…. HMMMMM Takes time to think before you type now dowsn’t it… I have family that wants us to come stay with them but ummmm we don’t. We havge a generator and we are using it. Just to state what it says up top is that: “About 5,000 of the 16,000 customers of the Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative in five counties were without power, said spokesman Terry Mazzone. Power remained out at about 12 customers in Lorain County later Monday, he said” that is what I am talking about when I saud 12….. Oh and so you know I do have family and friends in Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth and yes I am worried about them.

I have been with out power since 5:15 sunday evening. electric company told me today that I should have power by saturday. My kids think its fun, they said we are camping. Thankfully I have a prpane grill to cook up the meat before it spoiled and my parents have electricity for us to store what needed to be stored. We all just have to make lemonaid out of these lemons………Albeit there wont be any ice in our lemonaid just yet…lol. Good luck everyone and good night.
