2008 Lorain health department sets flu clinic schedule

Lorain City Health Department will have flu clinics in October.

Inside and drive-through options are available 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at Southview High School, 2270 E. 42nd St., Lorain.

A drive-through only option will be available 1 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the Lorain Fire Department Station 7 at 2111 W. Park Ave., Lorain.

Flu vaccines are $15 cash or paid through Medicare Part B.

Please bring your driver’s license or state ID for quicker registration.

All clinics are subject to change based on vaccine availability. For additional information, call the Lorain City Health Department at (440) 204-2300.

Black River Landing Farmers’ Market

The Black River Landing Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.

All products sold by vendors at the market are grown, raised or processed in Ohio.

The market is at 421 Black River Lane, one block east of Broadway, inside the brick Transportation Center.

Products include fresh produce, baked goods, homemade dog treats, honey, jams and jellies, candies, jewelry and other items.

Sheffield Lake rummage sale and flea market next Saturday

The Sheffield Lake community-wide outdoor rummage sale and flea market will be 9 a.m. to  5 p.m. Sept. 13 in the former Rax restaurant parking lot at the corner of Lake and Lake Breeze roads.

Free permits will be issued on site for those setting up.  Rain date for the event is Sept. 14.

Cleveland author keynote speaker at Lorain Library benefit dinner

The Foundation of the Lorain Public Library System, Inc. will host its third annual “Recognition and FriendRaiser Dinner” at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at John A. Spitzer Conference Center at the Lorain County Community College campus in Elyria.

The public is invited to attend. Cost is $35 per person. 

The dinner will include prime rib, tossed garden salad, California blend vegetables, whipped potatoes, rolls, butter and dessert. A vegetarian meal featuring vegetable lasagna may be requested. 

After the dinner, the Library Foundation will recognize and award individuals and businesses for their outstanding efforts on behalf of the library system.

Keynote speaker for the event will be Les Roberts, local mystery author and TV writer and producer.

Roberts is known for the creation of his Slovenian detective, Milan Jacovich, and has authored 23 novels, nearly a dozen short stories, eight screenplays and newspaper articles and reviews.

Roberts also wrote for  “Candid Camera” and “The Jackie Gleason Show” and wrote and, or produced for network and syndicated television, including “The Lucy Show,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” and “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” 

The Lorain Public Library System Foundation is a nonprofit organization with the mission to ensure that future generations have the same opportunity for a lifetime of learning, and is dependent on financial support to keep such programs like the Summer Reading Program and the Fall Family Read-Aloud ongoing.

Dinner reservations may be made online at www.lplsfoundation.org or via mail until Sept. 17.
