7-year-old boy dies after rescue from Lake Erie

Associated Press

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in northeast Ohio say a 7-year-old boy rescued from Lake Erie after being underwater for close to an hour has died.

Bay Village firefighters performed CPR on Michael Nasby of Brook Park before he was flown by helicopter Monday evening to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. A coroner’s spokesman says the boy’s heart wasn’t beating and he was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:47 p.m.

Bay Village Fire Capt. Tom Boatwright says there were heavy undercurrents and waves reaching as high as 4 feet at the city’s Huntington Beach, west of Cleveland.

Firefighters rescued two other children who were with the boy and who also had struggled in the rough water.
