Chevrolet and Ford like to advertise their trucks as being built “like a rock” or “Ford tough.” Lorain County Speedway will put those claims to the test tonight with the “Tough Truck Pull.”
Two trucks will be chained together at the bumpers, then stage a tug-of-war. When one truck drags the other across a line in the infield, the stronger truck will be declared the winner of the $250 first prize.
Registration is free. Call Jeff Fade, (440) 487-6345.
Truck action will continue on the track as the dirt-track truck divisions from Lakeview Speedway and the recently closed Hilltop Speedway will race.
E-Mods, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Chargers and The Road Course Warriors will also compete. Gates open at 3 p.m., qualifying at 5 and racing 7. Admission is $10, $5 age 6-12 and free to age 5 and younger.
Monday’s Labor Day show has been canceled.
ON DECK: The Legend Cars will return to LCS on Sept. 6. They’ll be joined by E-Mods, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Chargers and the Road Course Warriors. Call (440) 986-7223.

Remembering a veteran

Veteran Lorain County Speedway fans may recall the name of Paul Baumhauer, whose racing career spanned three decades at area ovals.
Baumhauer passed away Aug. 21, at the age of 78. Services were held Wednesday at Mansfield Memorial Park.
Originally from Mansfield, Baumhauer resided in St. Petersburg, Fla., for the last 30 years. His 28-year racing career began with stock cars in the 1950s, then Grand National racing in the ’60s. He raced Supermodifieds in the ’70s prior to his retirement.

No racing at Sandusky

Sandusky Speedway is closed tonight in recognition of the 52nd Annual Budweiser International Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway in Oswego, N.Y. The Buckeye Super Sprints will be making their first-ever appearance at that renowned “Home of the Supermodifieds” tonight.
ON DECK: Sandusky Speedway will crown the 2008 season champions in the Buckeye Super Sprint and Modified divisions only next Saturday. The Sportsmen, Pure Stocks and Spectator Stocks will run regular programs.

Admission is $40 for the weekend, with $10 weekend admission for ages 6-12. Gates open at 8 a.m. daily with time trials at 9 a.m. today and Sunday. Today’s eliminations begin at 3 p.m. and at noon Sunday. Call (419) 668-5555.

There will be more than 300 vintage dragsters, funny cars, gassers and super stocks competing in 12 different classes. “Ohio George” Montgomery of Dayton, recognized as the event’s official “Hot Rod Hero,” will sign autographs at his booth all three days.
