Twila Grace James

Obituary

Twila Grace James (nee Busha), 99, of Lorain, passed away  Tuesday afternoon, August 26, 2008 at Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center in Lorain, following a brief illness. Mrs. James was born in Lorain April 17, 1909 to the late Arthur Busha and Mary Grace (nee Cobb) Busha Hewes.

She was a 1927 graduate of Lorain High School, and received a teaching certificate from Bowling Green State University in 1927 and then earned a BS in education from Kent State University in 1946. She began her career spanning 35 years, in elementary education at Garfield School in Lorain, Clearview and South Amherst School districts. The final 21 years of teaching was spent at East Carlisle School in the Midview School District. She retired in 1969.

Mrs. James was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, Lorain, where she taught Sunday school, the Martha Circle, Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, Black River Historical Society, Queen City Chapter # 66 Eastern Star, AARP # 399, Lakeland Women’s Club, and a life member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

Mrs. James and her husband were avid travelers, enjoying trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Switzerland, England and throughout the continental United States.

Mrs. James is survived by her caregiver, Thomas A. Kramer of Lorain; many cousins, and people whose lives she touched.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) James on April 15, 1996; and brother, Harold Busha.

There will be graveside services at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2008 with the Rev. Greg Sellers, Pastor of the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
