Obituary
Thomas Orlo Hawke, 70, of Kipton, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family, following a nine month illness. He was born December 24, 1937 in Elyria. Thomas was raised in Henrietta Township and graduated from Firelands High School in the class of 1955. He had made his home in Kipton for the last 44 years. Thomas served in the United States Marine Corps. He was employed at Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 33 years before retiring in 1993. He was a member of Pittsfield Community Church where he was very active and supportive in caring for the needs of the church as an Elder and a Sunday School teacher. Thomas enjoyed carpentry, gardening and loved helping his family, his church family and his community.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nancy Ann Hawke (nee Fry); daughters, Diana Lynn Buchs of Oberlin, Deborah and her husband, Mike Headley, of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Buchs and Michael Thomas Headley; brother, Grant R. Hawke of Henrietta Township; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John "Jackie" Hawke; sister, Norma Nichols; and parents, Raymond W. and Katherine Marie Hawke (nee Smith).
Friends may call Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 11 A.M. from Pittsfield Community Church, 17026 State Route 58, Wellington. The Rev. Kenneth Gerhardt, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Camden Cemetery, Kipton.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to CHP Regional Foundation/New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
