BACK TO SCHOOL: Packed classes the norm in Avon Lake
The Chronicle-Telegram Staff
Classrooms are packed and overflowing into modular units outside two Avon Lake Schools this year, Superintendent Bob Scott said.
“At this point, we don’t have an open classroom in the school district, and we’re using modulars at two buildings,” he said.
The district has been struggling to keep up with enrollment growth, and Redwood Elementary School is the latest to run out of room. Scott said that’s the school with the least amount of space per pupil.
Eastview Elementary has dealt with the same issue in years past, but enrollment dropped and modulars didn’t have to be used there for a couple of years, Scott said. He said they’re back again this year.
The district is asking voters to help solve the problem this November by backing a 3.86-mill emergency renewal levy. Scott said he wants to build 14 to 18 classrooms at various schools over the next few years.
