BREAKING NEWS — Lorain law director charged with DUI in Lakewood

Stephen Szucs | The Chronicle-Telegram

LORAIN —Lorain Law Director Mark Provenza was picked up on a drunk driving charge early Wednesday morning in Lakewood.
Lakewood police received a call around 2:30 a.m. after Provenza allegedly rammed his car into the front porch of a home along the 2200 block of Bunts Road, and then fled from the scene in his vehicle.

Police caught up to him a couple miles later and charged a visibly bloodied Provenza with DUI, as well as fleeing the scene of a accident and not wearing a seatbelt.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for minor head injuries and later booked in the Lakewood City Jail, where he remained through Wednesday afternoon.

This isn’t the first time Provenza has faced drunk driving charges. He was convicted of DUI in Lakewood once before after he was arrested in 2001 after striking a fire hydrant. He has also faced additional DUI charges over the years.

For more details, see Thursday’s edition of The Chronicle.

Oops.

He must have been totally sh#it-faced to hit a house. “Police caught up with him a couple miles later” - was he trying to run home to Lorain from Lakewood?

Wow, DUI #3 that he was caught with, but don’t worry, the Democratic stronghold led by Tony and Anthony will keep him on as law director. Who else will they get to prosecute the drunks on the highway? I wonder if Ken Carney was in the car with him?

How can this guy function as the law director of a city when he is getting black-out drunk until 2:30 am on a Tuesday night (and apparently from his track record, this is not an uncommon occurrence)?

I can somewhat empathize with someone who has a drinking problem, but not when they drive. Man, the people on this forum are gonna have a field day on this one.

Let the games begin.

This guy is like the mule you have to smack with a two by four, to get it’s attention. He isn’t taking the hint…

But seriously, if he can’t afford the cab fare from Lakewood, he should move there, or do his drinking closer to home.

THEN take a cab or bum a ride when he goes out.

How many chances are they going to give him? He’s been Law Director since 2000. Was brought in under Foltin’s regime. Should have been fired the first time he was picked up for DUI.

I hope they checked the rear of that vehicle to make sure *the councilman* wasn’t doing the horizontal bop, with a lady of the night*.. Lorain, I feel really bad for you.. =(

Come on, give the guy a break! He’s obviously got a sickness and needs help, not criticism!!! Alcoholism is a sickness just like any other disease and he obviously cannot help himself. I think if we all rally around him and let him know we stand behind him 100 % maybe he will get the strength to get the help he so desperately needs!

Yes let’s give him a break by throwing his a** in prison for a while and let him dry out before his next dui results in him killing someone.

With 3 dui’s how does he even have a license?
You know this idiot has been driving drunk a lot more without getting caught with his fourth dui.

He obviously is an alcoholic, but saying just give him a break because it is a sickness is crap. It is a sickness but you cannot let him use that as an excuse for getting behind the wheel of a weapon on a continuous basis.

Buster…

You need to pull your head outta your A** because this is this scumbags 4TH DUI!!!

When he kills your family driving drunk, will ya say, “hey give this guy a break”?

I can’t wait to see him with his pretty orange colored license plate!!!

He needs to be jobless…

He needs to be carless…

He’s already brainless!…

Yes buster you are 10000000% correct, but he needs to remove him self from his position immediately. WE DO NOT HIRE THE BLIND TO DRIVE SCHOOL BUSES. Lorain is in a horrible situation and it appears that the elected officals are running wild, so since this is the case, who is tending the store, from the jobless, the crimes, the homeless, the condition of the city, etc, it appears NO BODY IS. The people of Lorain deserve a decent place to live and be proud of. And I do not understand why they would have to wait for election time to start to correct this issue, when a house is on fire, the fire is put out, and this town is burning !!!!!!

The City Law Director is ELECTED for a term of four years. This douche bag has been in office for eight years! You a-holes in Lorain keep re-electing this guy. Way to go.

The democrats in Lorain would elect a child molester as Mayor as long as he was a democrat. This guy will get elected again when the time comes up because the party will support him. Nothing is going to change and he will serve NO jail time.

Buster…

Yeah, alcoholism is a sickness.

BUT, nobody is asking him to quit drinking.

And how difficult can it be to make the decision to not get behind the wheel, when you’ve had even ONE drink?

This jerk off can afford a taxi, and he can surely afford to be ridiculed for being a total a** hole, endangering lives every time he drinks and drives.

I can only hope that when he dies behind the wheel, that he doesn’t take anyone with a reason to live with him.

Dan S., That says it all, but I still think he will be around as law director for a long time.

Take me drunk occifer, i’m home…. is what this guy should be saying!!

I have NO sympathy for people who drink and drive. Yes, alcoholism is a sickness, but why does the yayhoo still have his driver’s license after his 4th OVI?

Come on … oh wait — it’s because he is an elected official. Well, I thought that the new OVI laws were suppose to be fair and punish those who decide to drink and drive — guess they are only good on the common folk in Ohio.

I’ve been hit by a drunk driver and she blamed me!! Chick was drunk at 3:45 in the afternoon and she blamed me for hitting me!!

This guy needs AA yesterday . . . . . . . . . .

I think it’s a shame when someone is down we just keep kicking him! Everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves. I think if this man would get the help he needs, he could really turn this city around!! Just because he has a sickness doesn ‘t mean that he cannot perform his job as law director in the capacity it requires!

Buster, I agree with you on this one. We shouldn’t be kicking him, we should be kicking you for your unbelievable comments. He had numerous chances and blew them all. Stay out of the paper since you have already shown enough of your ignorance.

johnbear, I don’t know why you feel such a need for violence? I’m not ignorant I’m just stating my opinion like everyone else. This man has a problem and instead of writiing him off, we should see to it that he gets the help he needs!

He was ordered by Rocky River courts in 2004 to attend AA meetings for the length of his probation and submit to random drug testing. You can only help a person as long as they want to be helped. He obviously does not think he needs help.

Buster, Stop embarassing yourself in the newspaper. HE NEEDS TO BE IN JAIL NOW AND THEN HE CAN’T SUCK DOWN THE BOOZE. THE ONLY PEOPLE I FEEL SORRY FOR ARE THE CITIZENS OF LORAIN AND ESPECIALLY FOR HIS FAMILY.
If he was caught 4 times, can you even fathom the number of times he was on the road when he didn’t get caught? Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!!!
