No pre-wedding jitters — when among friends

Patti Ewald | The Chronicle-Telegram

It was a big, fat Greek wedding-to-be.

More than 100 people waved paper napkins and raised shots of ouzo in a toast to Amherst’s famous bachelor, Jesse Csincsak, and his beautiful Greek bachelorette, DeAnna Pappas, at a welcome home party Wednesday night in Lorain.

“We’re all excited to go through this dream with Jesse and Dee Dee,” said Patti Campana, at whose home the party was held.

“Wave your napkins and say, ‘Opa!’” Campana said, urging the Greek toast to life.

Never mind that Campana’s Italian and Jesse is Hungarian. This party was to make DeAnna, who is from Newnan, Ga., feel at home with Jesse’s friends and relatives.

And just when we thought Jesse’s rose-getting days were over, the famous bachelor got another one.

But this time it wasn’t from DeAnna who gave him rose after rose, week after week until she finally gave him the last one to signify he was the one she chose to be her husband.

Nope. This rose was from Dave Taylor, mayor of Jesse’s hometown.

“In Amherst this week, everyone knows Jesse,” Taylor said at a brief ceremony during the party.

“I thought when you came out in the coat of many colors, you were going home,” Taylor said to Jesse, who made his first appearance on “The Bachelorette” in a sports jacket that didn’t exactly look like the dark conservative ones the other 24 bachelor candidates wore.

“So did I,” Jesse said.

But that’s not what happened. In fact, Lorain County Commissioner Lori Kokoski said DeAnna told her that she was hooked on Jesse as soon as she saw his pink shoelaces — the ones he wore to match the multi-colored jacket.

Kokoski and fellow commissioner Ted Kalo presented a proclamation to the couple, wishing them health and happiness.

The Campana home was a fitting place for the party because it was where as many as 40 people — including Jesse’s parents, Ted and Willy Csincsak — would gather every Monday night to watch “The Bachelorette.”

And it was where the Csincsaks — who knew the outcome of the pre-recorded show but were sworn to secrecy — held their tongues while everyone else held their breaths, waiting to see if Jesse would remain in the running each week.

But on Wednesday night, there were no more secrets in this house, just plenty of bottles of ouzo and one happy couple who plan to get married next May.
