Little League roundup: Elyria North takes fourth at state

The Chronicle-Telegram Staff

Elyria North’s Senior All-Stars dropped a 3-2 decision to Ironton on Tuesday and were eliminated from the state tournament in Englewood.
“It was a well-played game by both teams,” North manager Todd Brubaker said. “We lost our very first game of the state tournament and came back to take fourth place. That’s a real tribute to our kids.”
Brandon Victor, who closed North’s victory over Maumee on Monday, went 52/3 innings and had to be pulled due to a pitch count, according to Brubaker.
“Brandon Victor threw a tremendous game,” Brubaker said.
Victor allowed three runs, two of them earned, to take the loss. Justin Murray, Pat Desouza and Cameron Koepp all had hits for North in the season finale.

East Juniors bow out

Elyria East’s Junior All-Stars suffered an 11-0 loss to Youngtown Boardman West on Monday night to see their run in the state tournament come to an end in North Canton.
East only had a pair of hits in the game — Scott LaMoreaux and Dustin Stolarski — and committed seven errors.
“Poor defense and we didn’t hit the ball — that’s a bad combo if you’re trying to win a state championship,” East manager Mark Feldmann said. “Actually, we didn’t hit the ball that badly, we just hit it right at them. We couldn’t find any gaps and the other team made some great plays.”
The team finished fifth in the state, a small consolation for the young players.
“It’s always hard to end your season with a loss,” Feldmann said. “But that’s going to happen unless you win the championship. Overall, we’re really pleased with the team’s effort.”

Avon’s run ends

The Avon Junior All-Stars went 2-2 at the state tournament in South Pointe, finishing fifth after a pair of losses ended their run.
Avon lost 10-3 to Hamilton on Monday, then suffered a
3-0 defeat to Canfield on Tuesday.
