If at first you fail to steal, try, try again

The Chronicle-Telegram Staff

VERMILION — Perhaps the Vermilion man wanted to drown his sorrows after his arrest for shoplifting.

Whatever the reason, Stephen Harris, 42, probably should have thought better of his actions — Vermilion police say that on Monday, in a span of less than four hours, they arrested Harris twice for shoplifting.

The first time was for allegedly trying to steal steaks worth $88.85 from Giant Eagle.

He was taken to the police station, charged and processed through the system, then released.

A few hours later, police said they went out on a call about another shoplifter — this one at the Tobaccoville Liquor Store — and arrested the suspect. And again, it was Harris.

The attempted booty the second time around? A bottle of whiskey.

Harris is scheduled to appear on his two arrests Thursday in Vermilion Municipal Court.
