Ron Taylor

Obituary

Ron Taylor, 82, of North Ridgeville, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at his residence, following a long illness. He was born June 29, 1926, in Salisbury, England, the son of the late Ernest R. and Kathleen Taylor.

Mr. Taylor had resided in North Ridgeville the past four years, having moved from Ashtabula where he had lived 28 years.  He previously lived in Elyria from 1953 to 1976.

He served in the British Air Force Reserves during WWII. He was a member of Fields United Methodist Church, North Ridgeville, and enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fishing, traveling, gardening, reading and spending time with his friends.

Mr. Taylor retired as vice president of Western Reserve Telephone Co., which later became known as Alltel, in Ashtabula in 1990. He previously worked with the Elyria Telephone Company from 1953 to 1976, starting as a linesman, working his way up the ladder, eventually becoming the commercial manager.

The Elyria Junior Chamber of Commerce named Ron the Outstanding Man of the Year of 1958 along with the Ohio JC’s recognizing him in the top five in the state of Ohio that same year. Mr. Taylor was very active in civic affairs, including being president of the Elyria Chamber of Commerce in 1976 and served on several boards, including the Elyria Memorial Hospital Board of Directors.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Gwen; son, David (Carol) Taylor of Shartlesville, Pa.; daughter, Sally (Jim) Orseno of North Ridgeville; grandsons, Tony Orseno, Chris Orseno; granddaughter, Samantha Hosler; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-sister, Kay Wesler.

Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville.  Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Fields United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mac Kelly, Pastor, will officiate.
