Black River Historical Society

The Black River Historical Society will host “A Taste of History” from noon to 9 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Black River Landing, 421 Black River Lane.

The event will include “Wine on the Water,” which will feature several area wineries offering wine samples for $10.

There will also be an antiques, arts and crafts show, and Chubby’s Family Bar-B-Q will be on hand, along with musical entertainment.

The next meeting of the Black River Historical Society will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Rosebud Party Center, 4493 Oberlin Ave., Lorain.

Ron Sauer and Colonel Matt Nahorn will present a program on “The Indian Ridge Museum: From Old to New.”

One-stop yard sale

First Baptist Church of Lorain will have its first ever “One Stop Yard and Rummage Sale” 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 2 at the church, 1510 Cooper Foster Park Road, Lorain.

Area residents are invited to bring their own yard sale to the church where a lunch featuring hot dogs, pie and ice cream will be available for rummaging hungers.

Mexican Mutual Society steak fry

The Mexican Mutual Society will host a steak fry 4 to 7 p.m. July 26 at 1820 E. 28th St., Lorain.

A $17 donation to the society comes with a steak, salad, rice, beans, salsa and dessert.

Mexican Mutual Society scholarships will be awarded at 7 p.m. in the courtyard.
