Junior committee grows with the city’s corn festival

Now in its fifth year, the Junior Corn Festival Committee continues to grow, adding more teens to spread the work of preparing for the city’s well-known Corn Festival which takes place Aug. 8 to 10.

Open to residents of North Ridgeville and surrounding communities who are 12 to 17 years old, the Junior Committee assists with events throughout the Corn Festival weekend including the car show, corn-eating contest, and walking around the South Central Park festival grounds in mascot costumes.

Anyone interested in checking the committee out is asked to attend a 6 p.m. meeting July 29 at the South Central Park pavilions.
Applications are available at the North Ridgeville Corn Festival Web site at www.nrcornfest.org.

Duct tape crafts
You can make flip-flops from duct tape, a bag out of old jeans and use old T-shirts to create new ones during a free craft program for kids in grades 6 to 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the North Ridgeville Branch Library. Those taking part are asked to bring old T-shirts and jeans. The library is at 35700 Bainbridge Road. For information call (440) 327-8326.

‘Swing’ into Olde Towne
Olde Towne Hall Theatre’s Youth Camp will perform “Swing” at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Join the cast for a walk down memory lane as they sing and dance to some of the best Big Band favorites. Tickets are $5. Call (440) 327-2909. Olde Towne Hall Theatre is at 36119 Center Ridge Road.

Re-live the ’50s
Time-trip back to 1958 with a sock hop, ice cream social and car show to help the branch library celebrate 50 years from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Registration for the car show, which is open to anyone, will be at noon. Prizes will be awarded at 3:30 p.m. Call the library at (440) 327-8326 for more information.

Library book sale
The branch library will hold a major book sale featuring all kinds of fiction, non-fiction, how-to, sports, health, history and inspirational books, as well as children’s and young adult books, DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes and puzzles.

Sponsored by The Friends of the North Ridgeville Library, the sale will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 25 to 26.  During the last four hours of the sale July 26, there will be a special — all the books that can be put into one bag for $4.

A preview Friends of the Library sale will be 5 to 8:30 p.m. July 24. Books, movies, and games may be donated at the front desk. All proceeds go to support library programs. The library is at 35700 Bainbridge Road.
