Mixed Martial Arts: Elyria’s Washington gets draw, then collapses from “extreme fatigue,” according to manager

SHEFFIELD — Marcus Washington fought out of a pair of arm bars, a deep triangle choke and a third round filled with flurries of punches to come away with a technical draw during Round 2 of the Quaker Fight Series on Friday night.
Washington, a 170-pound fighter with Elyria’s Team Powerhouse, dominated the first two rounds of the main-event fight, before Team GriffonRawl’s Adam Sadney stunned him early in the third, and kept throwing punches for the next three minutes.
Washington managed to escape the knockout, but couldn’t stay on his feet for the decision. He collapsed again trying to get out of the cage, and was finally taken out strapped to a backboard with neck restraints and receiving oxygen from a tank to a waiting ambulance.
“The doctor said it was extreme fatigue,” Powerhouse manager Paul Goins said. “He said Marcus left it all out there and was completely drained.”
The backboard and restraints were “all precautionary,” according to Goins, and the manager said his fighter should be fine after getting some rest.
“Overall, the team went 4-1-1 tonight — so that was a very good night,” Goins said. “I’m very proud of all my guys.”
One of the victories came in another main event, won by 185-pound Josh Gregorek, when he forced Tom Davis to tap out after applying a rear naked choke midway through the opening round. In the third and final main event, GriffonRawl’s Tony Groys captured the Superior Cage Fighting lightweight championship by defeating the Knockout Factory’s Carl Kettle with a triangle choke with just eight seconds left in their 155-pound title fight.
“I thought he’d sit back a little bit more,” Gregorek said of Davis, who usually enjoys fighting standing up. “He rushed me early and went right into what I like.”
Gregorek caught Davis on a bull rush and slammed him to the mat, then rolled on top and began raining punches down on Davis’ head. Davis eventually turned toward the mat and allowed Gregorek to slip an arm around his neck.
“He just kind of handed that to me,” Gregorek said. “I guess he got tired of taking those punches.”
Other Powerhouse fighters who scored wins Friday night were Lorain’s Mike Hazzard, Kevin “Don Lou” Bolf and Dominic Jones — all by TKO’s. Lorain’s Jose Martinez, who leaves for the Army on Tuesday, lost in his MMA debut.
