Here we go again. A senile car driver turns left in front of a motorcycle and no charges are filed. Oh, I forgot, it’s just a motorcycle. He’s got to stop, I’ve got a bigger vehicle so I’ve got the right of way. Besides, I’m 79. Who cares if I kill someone half my age.

I knew Joe. He was a good guy who worked hard to get ahead. It is a tragedy that he died. And for the record, he was wearing his helmet and protective leather at the time of the accident. I’m sure the woman driving the car will be charged with a traffic violation, but it seems so little for such grave consequences.

What a biased Chronicle writer we have here… “his motorcycle struck a car”!?! Let’s say what really happened here… THE CAR TURNED IN FRONT OF HIM!!! SHE was at fault, not him! Yet some people always blame the motorcyclist? Not that younger people don’t turn left in front of motorcycles everyday, but it’s time that stricter laws are enacted to keep the elderly from driving when they can no longer handle it.

ScooterGirl,
Stricter laws for Seniors …they will never do it because they vote!

I agree that their should be stricter laws about elderly drivers. Perhaps when they begin collecting social security they should have a driving test every other year? They could go to a place similar to an e-check facility for the test and have to have the “Passed” voucher when they get their plates renewed.
Republicans would hate it, though. Taking away more freedoms! It’s kind of like how smokers should have the right to smoke anywhere they please and harm and kill nonsmokers with second hand smoke. The diseases and deaths just take longer than the instant death of a car wreck so it’s more acceptable.
I’ve changed my mind. We can’t take away the driving freedoms of the elderly whether they are harming and killing other people or not, Just like we shouldn’t take away the freedoms of smokers.

i think everyone regardless of age should have to take a driving skills test whenever they renew their license. it’s not just the elderly that can’t drive! i as a motorcyclist, have to watch out for bad drivers of all ages.

How many motorcyclists have to die before people start looking for them? So many tragedies in the past two weeks, 3 that I know of now. Gas prices are going to keep going up so many more people are going to be on motorcycles and scooters. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Remember to look twice or even more times if you have to. My condolences to both families involved.

I agree with Daniel. When my husband and I are out on our bike we’ve dealt with our fair share of scares. If he sees someone that may not be looking directly at him in an intersection, he beeps or revvs, just to be sure they see us. You have the teeny boppers texting, the young moms with crying babies that they are trying to console, other moms with fighting kids they are trying to seperate and lots of others talking on the phone or eating. Everyone is in such a hurry these days, they forget they are in a human wrecking ball and that one mistake, one look away from the road could ruin another family for life. Slow down and pay attention. Where ever it is that you have to be will still be there, even if you are five minutes late.

Bad for the family, but what if he didn’t see her?
