Teen accused of burning stepsister with iron
The Chronicle-Telegram Staff
NORTH RIDGEVILLE — An 11-year-old mentally challenged girl was burned on her back with a clothes iron, according to a police report.
Her 15-year-old stepsister has been charged.
The incident occurred in April, but the girl did not tell anyone, the report said. The marks were not discovered until she went to her grandmother’s house and took a bath. That’s when the grandmother saw the marks and reported the incident.
The girl had five iron imprints of varying sizes on her back. The iron left first- and second-degree burns.
The 15-year-old stepsister has been charged with felonious assault and domestic violence.
Police declined to give more information because the investigation is ongoing.
The 11-year-old is now living with other relatives, according to police.

I hope the parents are looked at in this case. They share some responsibility. I have an 11 year old and see his bare skin all the time. How could the parents not notice this immediately? More people not fit to be parents. What a sad state of affiars.

I agree with you carrie. An 11-year-old mentally challenged girl would have complained of burns like those. Even a normal everyday 11 year old girl would have. So, the parents did not notice, or care???? I think they did not care.

Some mentally challenged folks wouldn’t have told if they were instructed to not to… some “challenged” folks TRUST those that are close and are loyal depending on the severity of their facilties…. Why blame the victim? what about a rape victim would you blame them?
The 15 year old should have the same done to her!!! Least shave her head…..
As far as blaming the parents on not seeing the burns on the child, when was the that last time Parents have seen their 10-15 year old kids naked? Since they realized they had body parts? Its no warm enough to wear swimsuits so they couldn’t see it that way…. at 10-15 kids want the priviacy and Mom and Dad don’t gives the baths anymore…. and if they did…. I’d start to worry then..

This story is not the complete truth. The parents shouldn’t be blamed. I think that if you don’t know the whole story you shouldn’t make comments.
