Dennis G. McCarthy

Obituary

Dennis G. McCarthy, 66, of Elyria, died May 6, 2008, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, following a five month illness. Mr. McCarthy was born in Oberlin September 13, 1941 and lived in Elyria for most of his life.

He was machinist at Ridge Tool Company for 15 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Elyria Eagles.  Dennis also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Barbara A. (nee Lee); daughters, Mary Schneider of Amherst, Molly Thomas of Lorain, and Megan Hurd of Monterey, California; sons, Thomas of Delaware, and John of Elyria; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Vietzen of Elyria and Kathleen Zacharias of Toledo.

Mr. McCarthy was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Charlotte (nee Powers) McCarthy.

Friends will be received at The Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria, Friday, May 9, 2008 from 4 to 7 P.M. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 8:30 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by Mass at 9 A.M. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria. The Rev. Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.

Dear McCarthy Family,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss - May God bless each of you and comfort you during this most difficult time.

I was reading the paper on-line from St Louis and Dennis’ name just rang a bell. I met and worked with most of your family through Spring Valley Country Club nearly 18 years ago! Stay strong and be there for each other to lean on!
