Want a 23-cent pizza? Call Papa John — not Mama Dianna

Cindy Leise | The Chronicle-Telegram

LORAIN — Don’t call Dianna Koepke today looking for a 23-cent pizza. She already gets way too many calls from people in search of a pizza pie.

“I get them all the time, including late at night,” Koepke said.

The Lorain woman has the misfortune of having inherited the phone number that used to belong to Papa John’s restaurant in Lorain, which closed years ago.

As if the late-night calls aren’t bad enough, Koepke is bracing for an onslaught today since the pizza chain is selling 23-cent pizzas to apologize for the No. 23 shirts — with a dig aimed at LeBron James — that turned up at a playoff game in Washington, D.C., on Friday.

The T-shirts had a Papa John’s logo and the word “Crybaby,” alluding to complaints from James about hard fouls from the Wizards.

The Cavaliers went on to win the series, and the pizza chain’s mea culpa was to offer its disgruntled Ohio customers the chance to buy one large, one-topping, takeout pizza for less than a quarter. The company also will donate 23 cents from every pizza sold, plus $10,000, to the Cavaliers Youth Fund.

The cheap pizzas will be available from 10 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Friday.

The closest Papa John’s restaurants are in Westlake and North Olmsted.
