Teen accidentally shoots self in head

The Chronicle-Telegram Staff

LORAIN — A 17-year-old Lorain boy was killed Saturday when he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun.

Corey Torres had been with a friend at a Lorain Drive home when began toying with the .38-caliber revolver, according to county Coroner Paul Matus.

Matus said Torres dumped out the gun’s bullets and proceeded to pull the trigger.

The first time nothing happened, but the second time, he said, Torres put the gun to his head and the gun went off.

“Although it’s self-inflicted, we’re not considering this a homicide,” Matus said. “There’s no evidence of anyone else being involved.”

Matus said he’s seen a number of instances when playing with guns ended tragically throughout his career.

A police report was unavailable Monday, and a spokesman for the Lorain police could not be reached for comment.
