Lorain woman’s stabbing possibly gang-related

Jason Hawk | The Chronicle-Telegram

LORAIN — Three women yelled the name of their gang as they stabbed a 19-year-old victim early Saturday outside Marathon gas station on Broadway, witnesses told Lorain police.

Shakara Whitfield, 19, of Lorain, was stabbed once in the back and also had a gash across the top of her head, police said.

Both cuts were about a half-inch wide but weren’t life-threatening. Whitfield was released from CHP Regional Medical Center a few hours later, according to a Lorain police report.

Seven women had been kicked out of Pali’s Bar on Colorado Avenue earlier after harassing Whitfield, she told police. When she went to Marathon to grab some food about 2:15 a.m., she found three of the women waiting, a police report said.

Two people told investigators they saw the attackers pull pocket knives from their shoes and yell “Gotti” — the name of a gang — as they closed in around Whitfield.

The suspects were found inside Marathon, but police said they searched the women and didn’t find any knives. One of the women said she had been sprayed with Mace and that Whitfield and a few other women had attacked her, the report said.

While she was being treated in the emergency room, Whitfield received calls from the three women, who said they were going to beat her up, the report said.

The calls continued after she was released from treatment, and Whitfield told police the women had threatened to kill her and her family. No one answered the door at a suspect’s house when police went to investigate, the report said.
