Avona/ Avon Lake notebook: Jan. 14

Lisa Roberson

Are you one of those people who decided this is the year to get in shape, but don’t know where to start?

Well, Avon Lake High School is hoping to take away some of that uncertainty by giving you a place to workout.

The high school weight room is open to residents of Avon Lake during certain hours for a nominal fee. Hours are 5:30 to 7 a.m. and 7:30 to 10 p.m. on school days only. The auxiliary gym walking track is open for walkers in the morning from 5:30 to 7 a.m.

Identification cards will be issued when fees are paid. Fees are as follows:

  • Residents under the age of 60 will be charged $75. This will give you access until June 5 on school days only.
  • Residents over the age of 60 who hold an Avon Lake Gold Card (applications available in the superintendent’s office) pay a discounted rate of $50.
  • There is a $10 fee for residents who wish to use the walking track only.

Payment for fees will be accepted in the form of a check made out to Avon Lake City Schools or by credit card (VISA and MasterCard only) and will be accepted by weight room personnel during the open hours.

ADD workshop for adults

Many adults are learning for the first time that they have Attention Deficit Disorder.

The diagnosis comes with a life of confusion, overwhelming feelings, and struggling to complete the simplest tasks each day with little or no satisfaction.

That’s why the Bridge to Success Skills Training Center in Avon Lake is hosting a six- session workshop designed by an adult with ADD to teach life-long strategies for living with the disorder.

This is an interactive, small-group workshop that focuses on skills and observations that can be practiced each week. It focuses on self-awareness, structure and self-empowerment.

The sessions are 7 to 9 p.m. starting Wednesday at 389 Seneca Court, Avon Lake.

The Avon Branch Library is at 37485 Harvest Drive, Avon.

TrueNorth open house
There will be an open house at TrueNorth Cultural Arts Center at French Creek Nature Center 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday. The event will preview the gallery show “Contrasts” and artwork by resident and local artists.

Enjoy the musical experiences of Paul Kroeger & Friends, caricatures by local artist Mike Leuszler and hands-on art projects. Also pay a visit to the resident artists’ studios.

For information, call (440) 949-5200.
